Get involved

SLMPiJoin us in developing new ways of
documenting the impact of Heathrow
airport. You can help in a variety of ways. Give us your comments and thoughts about the dynamics of Heathrow or get involved in discussions about visulisastions and representations.

You can also help build the network
by hosting a sound-stream at your
own home!

Borrow one of our devices or build your own and install it in your garden. The system creates a live audio stream as well as a data feed of high quality sound level measurements. The hardware bits costs about £120 and connect to your internet router. The software is open source and free to download. Have a listen and look at our current live streams and get in touch.

Screen Shot 2015-05-02 at 07.44.05We are using Raspberry Pi computers with a USB sound interface and a measurement microphones. The device connects to a home router to send the data and sound. This open-source hardware and technology allows us to stream live audio and real-time decibel measurements. The data is archived online for later detailed analysis. The sound streams  are contributing to the Locus Sonus global map of open microphones.

You can look at our technical guide to get a sense of the technology and setup involved.
